Atomic Snack Bar on youtube has a thing about Hammer scifi films. Mentioned Quatermass 1,2,3… 3rd is best maybe) having a thing about alien infiltration of the Brit government. So is that were X Files got the idea? Or was that a thing before the 1950s? I doubt it was a thing before that unless it was in a written story.
Let's just say this Atomic Snack Bar guy is pretty entertaining in the crazy movies he appreciates. He runs the gamut from that old 50s schlock Robot Monster gorilla body robot head movie to High Plains Drifter and Vampire Hunter D (original). And he finds some stuff I have NEVER heard of very frequently, I love it.

Back on Quatermass, I need to check it out. I think this is part 3 (movie) that even has a 7.0 on IMDB, which for scifi is like a perfect score. Not bad: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062168/
And for Quatermass 2 , this review says it's very much a ... need to question the government type thing.

"Quatermass 2 provides a unique and terrifying twist on the concept of invaders from outer space. Sci-fi/horror enthusiasts will therefore enjoy this offering, which benefits from solemn performances, gruesome makeup effects, and captivating action sequences."
The BBC has high praise for their old show, and apparently a modern one is out or coming out soon:
And how about this quote under the picture of a giant insectoid alien, sounds almost 2001 Space Odyssey, "The Quatermass serials featured various strange beings and occurrences – while also suggesting they may be at the core of life on Earth (Credit: BBC)"
