Secret(?) Moves

  • You can't dash/blue parry/deflect (or at least I have failed over and over) into the giant dwarf undead king's fire... but you can SKILL clash it apparently. Weird. The skill clash is even shown in the video on Steam's site.
    • Seems like you want to stand slightly closer to him than the middle circle icon in the floor in the center of the room, wait for him to say his thing, then jump TOWARDS him and press the Skill button. If you do it right, all hits will be reflected at him. If you do it wrong, only 3/4 or 1/2 will get reflected and it will Suck A LotUpdated: 11-17-2025.
    • Note, you can just run around the side and hit him from behind when he's doing the fire. Updated: 11-17-2025.
  • Undead King's fire can also be clashed by Brome's Wall of Contempt Arcana, nice! UPDATED on 11-17-2025 [November... 2025-11-17].
  • Galandra's spinning ultra can bounce off the floor (wall?) and hit for more. UPDATE/CORRECTION - oops, this is only with the Arcana Mastery upgrade.
  • Brome hold X (jump button) to float
    • You can get in an extra hit hit of the tongue by floating, can't you? Updated: 11-17-2025.
  • All characters, dash up or down (vertical) and hold UP or hold DWN to get a different endpoint from when you don't Hold up or down.
    • This means you can dash down and stay down, or dash down then suddenly run back up hitting where you dashed from. Experiment to understand... some monsters are beaten by one or the other.
  • Brome - you can hit some creatures with the Skill burst thing (is it really called Mana Surge or Burst? it's the big energy ball around him) when they can't hit you by
    • holding X (jump) to float down while hitting Skill (hit them from the air)
      • good against dogs and little mushroom monsters. Updated: 11-18-2025
    • going slightly above or below them, out of their range often, but the burst hits in a circular area (beware of monsters with circular swings that hit vertically, like the goblins with the armored face helmets).
      • Getting the upgrade (Mana Burst is the name?) for stronger + bigger Bromey-man SKILL helps.

Secret Ultimate! -

Whole bunch of stuff I might not have done yet

  • See 2nd post: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1904480/discussions/0/600792156684358437/
    • winning at the dice game at the bar (((it's possible???!!!))) Upd: Still haven't gotten it to work as of 11-2-2025, but I rarely try. Updated 11-18-25 - finally got it to work a few days ago! I wonder if it is just totally random with a 15% chance or something.
    • black robe passenger on the ship. Oh yeah, I forgot that happened, was cool.
    • Break chests after opening (maybe just break them open also)… once it spawned a tentacle money goblin.
    • Cool cutscene in southern entrance of Yeldrim where some greenish blue thieves (the noseless ones you see with dual swords) discuss getting loot, then start to fight with a tall guardian (the X magic attacks).
    • I love this every time, need to use it in DnD: fight against the solo guardian in necro region who gives you a fish and waits before fighting
    • thumbs up emote in front of the "cabin" with a purple glow behind 2 skeletons in the necro region for a chest  Update- this is indeed the thing in Yeldrim in the first half of it, with the backwards skeleton torso plus the usual front-facing skele, with the Purple flame in the building. You need to play with the positioning to get the Emote to trigger it, so keep trying in slightly different spots. At first it seemed like as close to the building as possible, but that doesn't always work for me. I did destroy one of the skeletons on accident once but no issues, still got it to work. Update2: sometimes it doesn't work, I guess you have to have seen the one eyed bunny cat.
    • -There is a room in the password route in Yeldrim with a strange purple mirror
I think you do an emote in front for it to open with a chest
      - confirmed.
    • % complete: Seemingly it really has to do with picking every trinket and ritual at least once, which makes sense since I've yet to pick some rituals.
    • - dude at the mast of the ship asks ((or gives you??)) for 10 crystals (maybe only if you have a wind ritual?)
    • revisit the bookie at the arena (Jaroba) - what the heck is this?
    • To add on to the WarRock's list, there is also hole spitting out bones that can appear right before the necro Silver Queen boss zone. Jumping in it five times gave me a chest.
      • I think you can throw enemies in the hole instead?
    • The Brome quest starts at the frog village, found in the Jaroba area, hit brambles on the bottom right of the screen at one of the start areas. Jump in pond. Find kids. You get super Arcana upgrade after.
    • Karl the dwarf's quest... start the furnace, search the library, bring a dragon (dracoraptor? yes) to somewhere in that dwarf cave area. I think it's another dragon boss. Get arcana super upgrade after I bet. UPDATE: Yep, another dragon boss. The first time you bring the dragonraptor pet mount, it will not trigger. 2nd time it will open the giant door and you'll fight a dragon. I recall liking the voice on the dragon.
    • Speaking of voices, I really like the voice of that evil mage guy that 15% of the time appears as a mini-boss early on in Grandery (has killed the goofy shield-holding, rock-throwing mini-boss dude on the northern path of  Grandery). He talks about them being betrayers or something... very crazy/angry/demanding/fanatical. Works every time, great voice! Updated: 11-18-25.
    • Galandra's questline... oh, the secret boss, her old mentor, in the undead upper area behind the portcullis. Get arcana super upgrade after.
    • Cider's questline... no clue yet.
      • They say: Exhaust dialogue of all character to her. Meaning switch to new character and talk to her. This is how every character quest is unlock. Updated: 11-18-25.
    • You do have to talk to most NPCs and fellow heroes to get the questlines to activate and keep going.
      • They say: Exhaust dialogue of all character to her. Meaning switch to new character and talk to her. This is how every character quest is unlock. Updated: 11-18-25.
    • When you die and a split second later the final final boss dies, it brings you back with a small chunk of HP bar and you win, the cutscene unfolds and Absolum loses.  Happened as Galandra with burn on him. This was a nice little thing to throw in there, old games never did this.

Area secrets below

If you see a one-eyed bunny cat, there is a secret soon after. But some secrets are always there.

Grandery

  • Check edges of screen, often there is a boulder blocking a chest. Is also true for areas outside of Grandery a couple of times if I recall (well, more like vases and urns or briars in other areas serving the same role as boulders).
  • Hit the fish! Always available. Right as you walk into the waterfall area from up to down, attack the fish... requires precise timing and positioning (middle from left to right edges of water), but it's a free HP meal. Always there, one chance to hit it. The other fish you see jumping off the waterfall seems invulnerable though.
  • Behind the waterfall, sometimes you can get in there and get a chest.
  • Dragonbeach secret (you went north, beach area) (ooohhh, this sounds like the good one): clear area in front of the giant dragon bones, then do some emotes! Triggers a fight they say!
  • The Misty Grove Area - you'll need to jump down (off a cliff) from one of the red forest areas. The shape of the walking path area is like an L lying down or a lego block. That's a terrible description, I need a picture. Look at the map below here... the arrow by the uh, the cut tree log(?), then jump off the north side of the cliff from the west side of the path... go to the ghost and bones on the map. Note, eventually a goblin will sort of guide you to this jump off point... and if you go the wrong way he complains "wrong way" and runs off.
    • Once you are down there, hit the road signs twice (that same goblin will give you that hint) and only twice to get the arrow to point up or down... follow that route to get to "The Heart of the Misty Grove" or whatever they call it. You'll find doppelgangers down there... and some are tricky to beat. Most are weak against throws at least. Usually there are one or two moves they are weak against, and other moves they are way too good against, in an unfair computer-player vibe.
      • And when you find the giant snail with the skeleton (which one is talking, I will never know... the unmoving skeleton has the caption near him, but the snail moves his mouth sometimes as if talking), if you have the helpful goblin he'll go nutty and jump into the pool of blood that is pouring from the eyes of the giant skull. Then he'll get into some crazy loop that makes him repeatedly fall (up, down?) forever. I think this is a reference to the Chun-Li bug in one of the old street fighter version, where she flies up forever and comes out of the bottom of the screen (can't find it, wasn't it her?).
      • Follow the opposite route in the Misty Grove to get to... ? In this game you always want to take different paths as time goes on to see new things.

  • Pirate boat
    • Sometimes you can break the lock if not guarded, and get a ton of money inside. You'll fight the captain. Oh, and you can hire the captain later... but that character annoys me so I refuse to do it.
    • If there is a barrel by the mast, keep hitting it (they tell you not to). It'll drop an item eventually.
    • I you bother to listen to the bad song (left side of ship) that is there 1/3 of the time, they'll eventually say "bravo" and throw 2 money bags on the ground for 20 gold total. It's seriously a troll by them, b/c if you are bored and talk to someone else mid-song it will not work (no gold). And it is SLOW and BAD... making you wait for it, so quite the annoyance if you are hungry for 20 more gold to buy that gotta-have-it item.
      • Speaking of songs... in a totally different place, that bard skeleton chick... if you do her quest, she sings a Really Beautiful song. Like seriously good music, I'd almost pay money to have a copy to listen to apart from the game. And I'm a cheap bastard so that says something.
        • Also noticed, she sometimes reappears randomly to go to a new area by escort.

Yeldrim

First 1/3 or 1/2 of area (the outside area)

  • One skele torso facing frontwards, one facing backwards. Between is a purple flame in a tomb (get really close to that flame). Do some gestures! Thumbs up worked for us.
    • I have had it take repositioning over and over to get it work sometimes. And one time we never got it to work (no one-eyed bunny cat I guess).
    • UPDATE INCORRECT->MAYBE: I suspect that the color of the eyes of the frozen (till you hit them... keep in mind you can avoid hitting them and they never hatch) skeletons sticking out of the ground are related to the Tombs later. There is a description you read on the tombs talking about pilgrims or something ghostly. So my theory is to try to not hit any of the frozen skeletons that have eye colors of the same sort as the tomb in question. Then maybe something happens. Hard to do, b/c fighting causes the frozen skeletons to get hit usually.
      • Maybe just try gestures??
      • UPDATE: They say just do an emote by the fire. Let's try it. (OH, maybe that is what we just did last night... check out the one at the top about the Backwards skeleton and the Purple flame.)
  • Yeldrim fire statues in first half of area;  you'll see 3 colors in their eyes.  Going left to right, that is the order to light up the similar statues you see soon after. Example - Purple blue yellow. But the order changes each run.
  • The lyre and the bard thing. Eventually you can open up the Tomb right at the start after you jump out of the boat. It's not obvious, but you have to jump into the hole from the left side.
  • If you get near the end of the outside area, sometimes there are brambles above the main path. If you look closely, you'll see a chest behind some plants. Walk to the right and up to get to the entrance, then back left.

Last 1/2 of area (inside the building)

  • North (or South), can’t recall.
    • A hidden cache up from main path. Several barrel type items block the way, destroy them and get some Legend of Zelda you-opened-it tunes playing in your head.
    • Some stairs lead down from main path.  Easy to miss.  Might be near Interloper entrance, maybe just past it sticking to main path? (((this is not the statue of liberty head 2, right? or is it?)))
  • North from Market (Portcullis entrance)
    • Getting in the upper portcullis entrance - see gesture made by the other guys. Seems like it is thumbs down the thumbs up, if I recall. Pretty sure at first you cannot get in, but eventually (after more runs) they'll let you.
    • The purple mirror, swirling on the wall. It is the Same path with the music and the ropes hanging from ceiling.
      • Do some emotes.  A chest might just appear.
    • The Interloper secret boss! There is a couple of tall statue monster things with the sky as the background somewhere (soon after the double fully grown cosmic things, the one-eyed tentacle monsters, one black & one white). Hit blockage and walk behind and up from the right statue (it'll be weird, with the offscreen icon appearing). You are in a new dimension, inspired very much more by Lovecraft than the already inspired by Lovecraft area! Have fun! "after you have dealt with the dual tentacle-monster fight and you enter the room with the statues and the starsigns"
    • Laboratory Cider Puppeteer quest thing - Don't take the secret path to the secret boss (Interloper) when you are at Yeldrim. Just go the regular route: First go up to the mansion, then stay on the regular path (go down the stairs, don't go behind the statue/into the void). You need a Ritual of Time though, so either cross your fingers or buy the amulet that guarantees one before you start your run.
  • South from the Market area (the rest area & buy stuff from turtle guy)
    • In the Yeldrim undead area, taking the south path (not portcullis) after the safe zone market… when see giant Statue of Liberty head, walk close to the Gem (has to be glowing, like changing into multi lights on and off) in her forehead… do some gestures (emotes).  For me it seemed to be the Stop gesture.  Tried, up, right right, down, then left= stop... it was triggered.

    • Look for the statue of liberty, past it, some urns to break at the bottom of the screen. It'll lead underneath by some hidden stairs, and you'll see another Statue of Liberty looking head, with a chest. Updated: 11-17-2025.

Jaroba

Jaroba's fire swamp area

  • BTW, fireswamps and Prince Brides... are sometimes real says PopSci. Trivia:
    • quote: There have been instances of people traversing swamps, either on foot or by boat, and they see a plume of flames. This is where a lot of swamp ghost stories come from. For example, in some European folklore, these fireballs were thought to be satanic sprites that could wield fire, and these were called will-o-the-wisps!
  • Sometimes after (the right end of) a purple pond, go down and break some giant briars to get to a chest.
  • Sometimes (always?) when you see 3 rocks in the yellow-green water of another pond... you go to the right end of it, go down... line up with the water, see the 3 rocks... if you jump in near the bank you take dmg like usual. But if you have a special move to get you past the 3 stones (and high in the air required?) you will see a chest fly out of the water to you. No damage taken. I did it with the dwarf's triple air dash if I recall. But I could NOT do it with the float power (jump + hold down jump button a long time) of Brome... which seems wonky... he would hit an invisible wall and fall down at the 3 rocks.
    • Correction! Throw items into the pond near the 3 rocks! I guess when I did the Karl triple air dash, something (a bullet shell casing) fell into the water?! See dude's video or pict below.

  • MAYBE: The clipping through giant rocks hiding a cave seems like a future patch fix, because it doesn't seem to do anything right now. Am I right?
  • Avoid the trap bridge! You can see the tripwires, but how to get around it?
    • Air dash, maybe, probably?
    • Brome float, yes.
    • And definitely: secret switch by vases and junk are on the right side. Press R1 to turn off the tripwire traps.
  • There are brambles under a bridge sometimes. Find chest.
  • There are lots of brambles on the bottom right of one area... like right at the start of a new area. Go there and find the frog village (no idea on real name)
    • Heals, etc.
    • Help the frog couple, and eventually they'll give you an upgrade in future runs.
    • Jump into the pond at the right time, and start the Brome quest where you go find his kids. They will be in the usual hiding spots, where chests normally are. Basically one kid per area.
      • Finish the Brome Quest, and you get the super Arcana upgrade (well, it might randomly appear on some runs that is).
  • The giant plant monster mini-boss... it seems much more efficient to attack only the roots/sprouts coming out of the ground. I think they take more damage and maybe trigger the main head's flatten-you attack less often.
    • How to beat the head's flatten-you attack? Run to the nearest edge of the screen (left or right), then quickly run all the way back to the other side. If you time it correctly, you'll be safe. Updated: 11-18-25

Asterios - the final area

Market area with the turncoat guy
  • Check behind the turncoat guy, from the right side, up a little. There is a chest behind him.
  • Top right area, above the Tortoise market seller guy... there is a window to break and enter for loot.

Final tower area
  • When you start the east?(right side) path to the boss, check the first 2 statues. The 2nd one has a Star (Ultimate thingie).
  •

Ritual, Ultimate, Randomness vs. Upgrade "Secret" (Just Using Logic)

  • It has occurred to me more than once that once you unlock more "stuff", you have more random things that will appear during the random generated loot sequences. So...
  • So you might not want to unlock everything, ritual-wise, if you don't ever want Time or especially Chaos rituals, for instance.
  • You might not want to buy all the upgrades for character ultimates and upgrades for rituals (inspirations?) if you would rather see the fewer and earlier options more often.

Secret Difficulty Increase (secret?)

  • Yes indeed, the game gets harder the more runs you have on that save account.
    • Might also affect a high level dude joining a low level (low run count) account.
  • More armored monsters... all in one room... ouch.
  • "Yes. New types, tactics, and hazards show up with later runs."
  • Can Turn off chaos mode with the old bent over friendly tentacle guy under the Start Area to reduce difficulty (and return monster spawns to normal for the area, instead of random + harder from chaos portals). Can toggle it back on later for higher difficulty again.
