Vintage musician Caricature shirts from Prof. Of Rock

Caricatures at time 1:07 on his vid “ Country band accidentally mailed song to rock stations turned“

https://www.youtube.com/live/oEtX87JMgw0

Those are some great caricatures… not demeaning or goofy… but so clear I recognize that guy from 1971 on the left but have no idea what his name is.

Let’s see… the 1967 is

  • Jimi Hendrix
  • The Doors Jim Morrison
  • Beatles, Paul
  • ?Eric Clapton??
1971 is
  • That guy -> The Who guy Pete Townshend, OK, the kid found him quick.
  • Zeppelin’s Robert Plant
  • Joni Mitchell! Gotta be her. (Was thinking THE Mamas and the Papas (well, they had a brief reunion in 1971 says wikiped, but the hair is wrong, bangs needed). Was not: ? Lady from the Carpenters? )
    • This is hard. Referencing list of top women in 70s, and here are top 40 lists
      • Toni Mitchell kinda looks like that, but one one top 40? Her big album was 1981.

  • ? Marvin Gaye (i did not know, the kid knew)
1981
  • Hall and Oats
  • Journey’s Steve Perry
  • ?Foreigner guy? (I didnt know)
  • ?mayyybe Rush, Geddy Lee… he does have a mic
1984
  • Ah Ha's Morten Harket
  • Prince
  • Eddie Van Halen, ... the hair is unmistakable, but the fingers on the guitar are the true clue, love that.
  • Bruce Springsteen?
1987
  • U2’s Bono
  • George Michael
  • Def Leopard’s … Joe Elliot
  • Axl from Guns n' Roses
1991
  • Kirt Cobain? From Nirvana
  • REM’s Michael Stipe
  • Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam
  • Metallica’s James Hetfield

Let's see some of the inspiration for Axl, Eddie Vedder, and the others. You can see a lot of them reference several classic looks and mash them together to get the perfect essence of these guys:

Part of the vibe.

And more.

The bandana and glasses in color, but red. Calmer in November Rain.

The yell pose. Love Paradise City, what a song.

And the yell pose some more, classic Axl.

And the glasses on top and bandana. This is definitely a big part of the inspiration.

The collar, the hair, the multi-colored guitar, it's Clapton in the 60s.

Part of the expression.

Something about this one.

The green shirt.

More of the expression.

And More of the expression.

And once again.

Bono's Han Solo outfit. Yeah he's a fan of Han, right?

Sleeveless and hat.

Sleeveless and hat.

Hat and glasses.

Sleeveless and hat. Check. This was the look for the Joshua Tree era. .

Ah Ha, if it is indeed them for the 1984 album, I think they got the jacket from the non-singer for the singer's caricature. Just so you knew it was new wave-ish in the eighties, heh. Or maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but who else could it be? Not Duran Duran. Not Wham.
