Absolum - Brome + Cider techniques vs. harder monsters

BROME / ALL

Some of these apply to any character, not just Brome.

  • Passthrough dash upgrade ritual… time unstable dash.   Great against
    • Underking, instead of clash parry, just go thru and behind
    • Squire skeletons that block
    • The red and black shield + spear guys from the final area
    • Big lizards that block
    • Runaway shoot ghostly wraiths (dash will block projectile or get behind 'em)
  • Float plus Skill big magic globe attack AKA Mana Burst.
    • Vs. dogs, because they rush you
    • Vs. little mushrooms, since they are also short, it hits better than the tongue sometimes i think
  • Vs. dogs, you can also
    • can also run at them and hit the Attack button Early, it'll catch them. If there are several of them, be careful.
    • as mentioned, the floating Mana Burst bubble works.
    • Also the slow floating + tongue attack is pretty good against them.
  • Vs. birds
    • Dash or run into attack, to get spinny air baton staff. Lasts a long time, catches attacking birds easily.
  • Vs. big mushroom men… the moderate ones, like in the super early cave
    • Float and air attack with tongue, it keeps them from landing on you.
  • Clash kind of required against
    • The giant owlbear looking monsters
    • The mushroom troll miniboss
    • the underking miniboss
    • ... the hammer smash of the Lizard king guy. But don't let him snatch you instead. And when the heck does he do the belly attack or charge across the screen thing? Very unpredictable for me, I only find him manageable if I have a horde of helpers or if my DPS is insane.
  • Dodging is great against the two amphibian miniboss sisters...
    • if you have a Lightning Spark. You need to dodge (vertically) them a lot... and then the spark hits them, great stuff... it's the only time I found them manageable.
      • Don't even regular attack, just dodge vertically, wait for them, dodge, forever.
  • Vs. Blue goblins with full-face helmets
    • Wow, they are hard if not a 1on1 fight. Not sure, just avoid till you get a moment for a 1on1, then you can just spam attack till they screw up.
      • maybe the "real way" is to clash them?
      • Brome having decent reach on regular attacks, once you get them 1on1 I think you are fine, it just takes too long. I often use a Arcana super to speed up the process, though it's not guaranteed to hit... I think Barrage is the best one against them, trips them up.
  • Vs. quick green running-behind-you lizardmen types
    • They really are funky to deal with... I think run+attack is the way generally.
    • If you get them up against a wall, repeated Skill-manaburst to juggle.

CIDER

Finally played her more. Trickier and different, but fun to use.
  • Vs. big mushroom types (moderate, not super hard)
    • get close to them, then small jump + attack immediately... she'll do a spinning rotor attack on the way up and down... like hits them in front then in their back... as you land you auto-grab throw, or at least it was doing it for me very very consistently. So then throw 'em!
  • Generally, just get a bunch of her ranged upgrade options. That's her broken version, if too easy.
  • Vs. dogs and little mushrooms
    • skill attack from afar
      • note that her skill attack missing things if they are knocked out on the ground
  • Vs. goblins
    • Mostly approach from vertically and then throw.
  • Vs. Blue goblins with full-face helmets
    • Wow, they are hard if not a 1on1 fight. Not sure, just avoid till you get a moment for a 1on1, then you can just spam attack till they screw up.
      • maybe the "real way" is to clash them?
  • Vs. miniboss human shield guy
    • You are going to need to air Skill a lot is what I have found.
      • staying in the air a lot avoids his grab
      • skill to clash his thing
      • be careful of the rock toss/scrape
