Origins of light bounce puzzle, Scooby Doo?

The Scooby-Doo show.

S01:e02 - the Fiesta Host is an Aztec Ghost.

Time 18:00, they bounce moonlight off brass plates(?) to a symbol on a wall in a S. American style pyramid.

This was 1976 I think, and so before any Indiana Jones or likely any D&D modules used that trope.  I wonder if some old book had the idea (I guess LotR has that secret entrance to Moria thing yeah), but likely this Scooby episode influenced a bazillion other folks in modern times.

Pretty sure it shows up in Zelda games, lotsa D&D, movies, etc.

Meanwhile, Shaggy and Scooby discover a vacuum cleaner that blows out a smoke screen. When the smoke clears, the Stone Monster appears and chases them until they meet up with Fred, Daphne, and Velma. Suddenly, Katazuma arrives and locks our heroes in a room. Velma deciphers the hieroglyphics, discovering that the room is dedicated to the moon goddess. She learns that when moonlight shines on a specific inscription, a secret passage will be revealed. Using an array of reflectors, they guide the moonlight to the inscription, and a secret passageway is opened.
