Origins of light bounce puzzle, Scooby Doo?

The Scooby-Doo show.

S01:e02 - the Fiesta Host is an Aztec Ghost.

Time 18:00, they bounce moonlight off brass plates(?) to a symbol on a wall in a S. American style pyramid.

This was 1976 I think, and so before any Indiana Jones or likely any D&D modules used that trope.  I wonder if some old book had the idea (I guess LotR has that secret entrance to Moria thing yeah, but no actual bouncing of light), but likely this Scooby episode influenced a bazillion other folks in modern times.

Pretty sure it shows up in Zelda games, lotsa D&D, Raiders of the Lost Ark, other movies, etc.

Quote

Meanwhile, Shaggy and Scooby discover a vacuum cleaner that blows out a smoke screen. When the smoke clears, the Stone Monster appears and chases them until they meet up with Fred, Daphne, and Velma. Suddenly, Katazuma arrives and locks our heroes in a room. Velma deciphers the hieroglyphics, discovering that the room is dedicated to the moon goddess. She learns that when moonlight shines on a specific inscription, a secret passage will be revealed. Using an array of reflectors, they guide the moonlight to the inscription, and a secret passageway is opened.
