SSBU, Sora, anti-Sora, deeper details

Lingo note: tomahawk grabs = empty jump grab.

Info helpful to all gleaned from this reddit thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SmashBrosUltimate/comments/1eaw969/how_do_i_beat_sora_sideb_as_jigglypuff/

What an incredible document, with tons of info that will get you thinking about how this game works:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-BQ0mXoKrgqdjTpVGKWh18F8zK6Usq3wFm2BdnemIDo/edit#heading=h.269e04dqaq5a

Quote:

Going off off this, the way for Puff to beat Sora SideB is basically the way everyone beats Sora SideB. That is to recognize situations where Sora will use it, and have a shield ready.

In neutral, Sora wants to SideB as a burst option from midrange. If you find yourself at midrange vs Sora you can preemptively shield this and, if Sora bites a shield with SideB, it's possible to punish between bursts of SideB.

 Quote:

That's why the matchup is rough for Puff. While you can edgeguard most of the roster with Puff, Sora is an exception.

Sora is so dominant in the air that he contests the likes of Bayonetta and Meta Knight even in disadvantage. The constant stalling offstage, disjointed and enduring sword hitboxes, wide strike range, floaty physics, ranged options and massive double jump all benefit Sora offstage and make him near-impossible to edgeguard.

As a Puff your best bet is to avoid extended interactions offstage, and kill with smash attacks or Rest from neutral. It's a bad matchup, and many players opt for a secondary character who has an easier time against him.

Here is an interesting G&W Miya vs. a Sora dude. Miya died here due to a SD Self Destruct accident off the side. This game, I tell you... Sonix does that all the time.

SSBU Donkey Kong's GiantPunch

 https://www.reddit.com/r/SmashBrosUltimate/comments/1eb17qu/giant_punch_is_op/

There are some crazy ones in that video. Like the one at time 1:19 where DK throws Greninja up high, you expect the dingdong(?) up air and instead waits and does the GiantPunch.

Or as they are split second about to recover UP, run off the edge, turn around, giantpunch:

SSBU Bowser and Wario, from a Smash Newb/Veteran Gamer

Bowser

 I like this: https://game8.co/games/SSBU/archives/281188

"Smash Ultimate Bowser is perhaps the best the character has ever been. As always, he has access to a ton of KO moves, which can take opponents stocks extremely early. While his moves are all rather slow, he is immune to rapid jabs, and several of his attacks have super armor on them, allowing him to tank many opponent attacks and win interactions. He also boasts very high dash speed, and can edgeguard with B and use his command grab (side B) to clean up stocks.

Being a heavyweight, he is a target for projectiles, so he will have to make use of his speed to avoid getting camped. He also has a terrible disadvantage state, and mediocre recovery, which can make it tough for Bowser when he is getting comboed by an opponent. Although he has rather slow moves, each one of them hits like a truck, and Bowser is one of the easier character to pick up and play as."

But I have one question, what is "terrible disadvantage state"? They talk about issues getting comboes... so I guess they mean the way he falls from the sky after being hit. UPDATE: The kid tells me, vague term including when you are near the edge and don't want to be... or in the air and don't want to be above the bad guy. Also is vague b/c some characters, rarely, want to be in the air.

Basic tips for Bowser:
  • Block (shield their attack) and do Up-B. Is 6 frames to come out (fast)
    • Jump + Up-B is 9 frames to come out.
    • Grab out of shield for entire cast(?), aka shield-grab, is a slow 12 frames.
  • F-Air good
    • Short hop f-air is a kill move, good range, and just really good.
      • Careful if they are super short... maybe do the jump+jump button short hop then press attack after (does that work better?)
    • superarmor on startup dude claims
    • disjoint dude claims
  • Sometimes I do up-Smash after blocking something, but is that actually smart or just getting lucky?
  • Sit near ledge, or platform above ledge and use fire breath to knock them down.
  • Up-air is pretty good to kill, almost like DKong.
  • N-air is really good.
    • REDDIT folks say: Throwing it out is a gamble. Its sh*t on whiff/block and great on hit. You'll see Bowser's approach with forward air because its safe to throw out and starts combos and you'll see him throw out nair for a big damage read because nair alone deals like 30% if you get all the hits and combos.
  • Down-Air, the spiked shell drop, is often better than Down-B. Can steer it, and it comes out faster(?).
  • Side-Tilt, use it more.
  • Tilts have some intangi frames in middle of them.
  • Special grab... you and enemy fight over direction of where you land (lower dmg person has more control).
  • Recovery - REDDIT says: a lot of the times there is little to nothing he can do to get back onstage when he is dragged offstage by a combo because his recovery is bottom tier. The only thing he has is a slight timing/height mixup by delaying your B button taps.
F-air.

Wario

Basic tips
  • Down smash kinda bad
  • up tilt kinda good, might combo into itself
  • Eating things (motorbike, what about people??) shortens the Waft build up time
  • Do NOT hold up when on motorbike when falling off ledge, b/c it will wheelie and kill you (stuck on it for too long)

Ultra Q the movie, Legend of the Stars (1990) influenced Darkstalkers fighting game? X-Files.

The robots(?) in the movie are fashioned after the ancient bug eyed things. Influence for Huitzil (Phobos) of Darkstalkers. This movie was in 1990, so kind of perfect timing to be fresh in the minds of the Capcom game creators.

This French site, translated, has a ton of interesting and insightful info about this movie, the Ultra Q TV series (aka, the X-Files 30 years before the X-Files), and Ultraman.

Be warned, despite this tame Ultra Q movie being reviewed very well, his site also has some very gross stuff and raunchy stuff. The site seems to review every single movie that existed in the horror realm: https://perdudansla5edimension.com/ultra-q-the-movie-legend-of-the-stars-1990/

Let me paste some tidbits below... I think this guy saw the Exact same movie as me, because he's spot on for just about everything in my estimation (Google translate got this translated via the Chrome browser):

It will be difficult to explain to a Westerner the importance of the Ultra Q series , but we can sum up by saying that without it, the popular icon that is Ultraman would probably never have seen the light of day. This superhero capable of growing at will is probably the greatest representative of tokusatsu on his own, at least on the small screen, and is at least as responsible as the atomic lizard for the importance of giant monsters in Japan. But before his first appearance, there was a sort of prototype (which partly gave him his name) working on the same principle: each episode presented a gigantic and menacing creature through an orgy of small models and rubber suits, and this time no alien robots to solve the problem. Prefiguring a little of the X-Files , the show showed a trio of journalists investigating paranormal phenomena each
week in an atmosphere sometimes not far from a horror film."

"Well, in reality the general atmosphere was a real weather vane and the comic or parodic stories rubbed shoulders without problems with the more tragic or paranoid plots, but in any case the thing had its little effect at the time, helped it is true by a successful opening credits. If it had continued a few more years we could probably have considered it as a Japanese equivalent of The Twilight Zone , but the producers changed their concept in order to enter a more family framework and thus enlarge their audience: color replaced black and white, action replaced mystery and above all a sparkling alien took the place of human reporters. A successful bet since the franchise still persists today while Ultra Q is practically forgotten from all memories despite tiny returns during the 2000s ( Ultra Q: Dark Fantasy ) and 2010s ( Neo Ultra Q ).
...

But the idea is rather good because if Ultra Q could be seen as a precursor to The X-Files , Ultra Q: The Movie could just as well be its prologue since three years later the American series would provoke an international craze for flying saucers, conspiracies and the Strange. Moreover, it is exactly on these elements that the feature film focuses, almost ignoring the giant monster that only appears here two or three times, very briefly. The screenplay prefers a slow exploration of Japanese folklore, which it recontextualizes in a very contemporary setting while injecting science fiction elements. The journalists come across a borderline Lovecraftian cult, investigate inexplicable deaths and have a close encounter of the Third Kind while realizing that their tales and legends are not fictional. Chris Carter's entire formula is therefore found here and without the slightest second degree.

...

He's pretty cool, with his long thin horns serving as a lightning rod that allow him to spit out a charge of energy like Godzilla. Pure ultra kaiju that doesn't hide its obvious inspiration from Inoshirō Honda's famous creature, and besides the music imitates that of Akira Ifukube as soon as he appears on screen. His almost "human" eyes are pretty weird though, even if the fact that he can blink them is a nice detail, and the last images of the film present this brilliant idea that he is not at all the sea god that one might think, but in reality a biomechanical creature [[[note by me, it looked like Mechagodzilla]]] like HR Giger that is an integral part of Wadatuzin's spaceship. Of course Tsuburaya is not Toho (or even Toei) and the quality of the models and suitmation remains rather limited, the sets being empty, not very elaborate and often lost behind smoke screens. Television work, you might say.

All this is amply made up for by the incredible staging of Akkio Jissoji, always looking for the shot that pops and creative framing. Almost every image is meant to be aesthetic or atmospheric, like this Torii gate overlooking a mysterious island, this Sea God sign on the facade of a building plunged into darkness or these spotlights replacing the trees of a bamboo forest. He also knows how to show pollution, like with these factory chimneys hiding the view of Mount Fuji and this garbage scattering everywhere during the takeoff of the alien ship. A marvel that would really benefit from the Blu-ray treatment with all these plays of shadows, lights and colors. Good work that can also be found in the music, not far from the experimental compositions that Mark Snow will deliver for X-Files but also very reminiscent of the creepy sounds of Christopher Young in Hellraiser and Freddy's Revenge .

Ssbu king k rool

King K. Rool

Experiment down tilt over and over on platform... UPDATE: The kid said don't bother, suggests charging up harder Smash instead. Well... at my level, constantly doing down tilt is fun, so I might do it more.
  • He plants them in the ground and i did it like 4 times against cpu.
  • Did 3 times vs a player newbie. But that was on main ground.

Medieval Fantasy Animated, Heavy, Trippy, Wild

On youtube for free is the first one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxR-oKkwJLI

Exordium is the first,  wow. Has some real mind-bending moments, making you wonder what is really going on and why. A thinker for sure.

The Spine of the Night, on Morgan King’s YouTube.

The older one on the channel is awesome.

What is “The Bloom”?

UPDATE: The Spine of the Night is crazier and WAY more rated R. Definitely worth a watch. It's weird, it's Japanese levels of hyper-violent... it's cool, it's mesmerizing, and it'll keep you thinking about it. We're about halfway through it, can't wait to see how it plays out.

SSBU TierList 2024 by Luminosity, and then their pros

It's always interesting to see what they say.  "as determined by our 61 panelists (((pros looks like))) ranked globally in 2023"

YTube has comments by Sonix, MK Leo, Maister, etc.

MK Leo said some things like:

  • Maybe Lucario is high tier (the kid disagrees)
  • Maybe MetaKnight is high tier
  • Thinks Joker, his char, is way up there I think
Sonix said:
  • No way is Sonic top 3

SSBU Ness Mini-guide, just weird tips

Ness in SSBU. most from Chocktopus's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZfO83n4IVo

  •  Face backwards to ledgeguard with down smash (hold it), the yoyo will hang off the backside and nuke 'em.

  • Side Smash, Baseball bat kills light characters at like 70% if you hit with tip of it.
  • Up Smash Yoyo will defend (antiair) pretty darn well.
  • PK fire, into down-throw, into fwd-air.
  • Up-B PK Thunder blue lightning thing, ON GROUND, if you launch Ness sideways into them, kills at 40% .
  • Up-B PK Thunder... if they are off stage, try to hit them with the TAIL of it to stall them out in the air----> kill.
  • RECOVERY - use down-B to slow down your fall, think, then do up-B recovery.
  • UPDATE: you can do quick down tilt (super fast crouching short kick looking thing) to kill some projectiles, esp. those from Pacman. As seen here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SmashBrosUltimate/comments/1e6kwph/ness_down_tilt_might_be_broken/

AIR MOVES
  • N-air, short hop, hit on way UP and attack again on way DOWN. Two attacks!
  • F-air, do the Wario thing where you attack and then move back.

Weird old cults connected to author of Fu Manchu, the villain in books and movies for 100 years.

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermetic_Order_of_the_Golden_Dawn

This guy Rohmer, author, made up the character Fu Manchu. Fu Manchu is the basis for the mad scientist super genius criminal villain.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sax_Rohmer ... he claimed a lot of weird stuff, including being part of that Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn aka Golden Dawn, which believed in magic and whatnot. Wikiped says it is the basis for western occultism (wicca, etc.) stuff.

Was started by freemasons in Britain apparently, from like 1887 to 1903. Pretty weird! An influence on Led Zeppelin?

The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao, has Tony Randal... the uptight guy from the Odd Couple TV show.

Earth's core is hot for three main reasons

They say:

1. Mostly from the formation of the Earth. Leftover heat still exists and is well insulated... which just seems bonkers it can stay hot for so long.

2. Friction, but not spinning... they say it's from heavier material sinking to the center.

3. Radioactive materials. No idea how much, no good way to calculate.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-is-the-earths-core-so/

"The amount of heat that can arise through simple accretionary processes, bringing small bodies together to form the proto-earth, is large: on the order of 10,000 kelvins (about 18,000 degrees Farhenheit). The crucial issue is how much of that energy was deposited into the growing earth and how much was reradiated into space. Indeed, the currently accepted idea for how the moon was formed involves the impact or accretion of a Mars-size object with or by the proto-earth. When two objects of this size collide, large amounts of heat are generated, of which quite a lot is retained. This single episode could have largely melted the outermost several thousand kilometers of the planet."

"Additionally, descent of the dense iron-rich material that makes up the core of the planet to the center would produce heating on the order of 2,000 kelvins (about 3,000 degrees F). The magnitude of the third main source of heat--radioactive heating--is uncertain. The precise abundances of radioactive elements (primarily potassium, uranium and thorium) are poorly known in the deep earth."

http://cansay15physics.blogspot.com/ had this nice graphic, which shows the core spinning, which still makes me wonder about friction there... the whole Earth spinning vs. the core, etc.:

Led Zeppelin's Kashmir inspired The Avengers (movie) Theme and maybe a Doom2 song.

The kid says so. Not in a spot to listen right now.

Possibly the Doom2 game's "Duuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnn. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnn." song. ;)

Trivia from https://musichasameaning.com/2021/12/24/led-zeppelin-kashmir/:

Originally titled Driving To Kashmir, the song had begun as a lyric Plant had been inspired to write in the autumn of 1973 after a long, seemingly never-ending drive through “the waste lands”, as he put it, of southern Morocco. It’s meaning had nothing to do with Kashmir, in northern India, at all.

As Plant explained Kashmir’s meaning to Cameron Crowe, it was about the road journey itself rather than a specific geographical location: “It was a single-track road which neatly cut through the desert. Two miles to the east and west were ridges of sand rock. It looked like you were driving down a channel, this dilapidated road, and there was seemingly no end to it.” Hence, Plant said, the opening lyric: ‘Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dreams.’

So John Bonham was in a band or two b4 Zeppelin. He joined a band, Robert Plant was in; a band called "Crawling King Snake". And there was an old blues song that many folks did by that same Crawlin' King Snake name, or Black Snake Moan from Blind Lemon J.:

Blind Lemon Jefferson - Father of Texas blues (he was blind). Influential but most blues guys of his time couldn't imitate his high pitched voice.

SSBU, Incineroar's side-B... is it inconsistent still?

BTW, it has a little armor on the move... the 11.99% apparently.

BTW, this guy Local-Ferret-848 on reddit 3 mo. ago says "It’s only a 4 frame window to hit (0.07
seconds) for the lariat attack"

Also, via the frame data site https://ultimateframedata.com/incineroar.php (gotta go Inspect the source code to get the text, "inner html" or "element" depending on browser, how annoying):

On the ground: Invincible on frame 5-6, head/arm invincible on frame 7, and arm invincible on frame 7-57.

Following a grab, successful window for a lariat is frame 43-47. Any later is a failure and results in Back Body Drop or Chest Bounce. Damage-based armor 1—58 (14.338% in 1v1, 11.99% base).

So the kid swears it's harder to time bigger guys, like you do it earlier or something b/c of their size. It does seem different to me, but I usually can get it, barring any lag.

-->> This dude found that on frame 7 it was 50/50 the good hit and the weaker hit, back 5 years ago:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-SXMrSGl7c

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2sVb8eDV0o

Maybe it's the percentage the opponent is at? Well, pikachu is at 142% and then 156%, so maybe.
But DKong is at 72% and 86%, so that shouldn't matter.

He says "I held B on Frame 7 of both these attempts but got different results. Pikachu was grabbed out of tumble on both tries. Can't figure out what's causing this inconsistency, I want to say human error but it's hard to advance an incorrect amount of frames in training mode."

Genki in Japan means more than health. Energy, well-being, and health.

Informal = "genki?"

instead of the formal "genki desu ka?"

 https://www.japan-talk.com/jt/new/genki

According to them, "genki" means "energetic, lively, and healthy". Saying energy, enthusiasm, and health are all rolled up into one concept in Japan's culture.

According to them, Japanese don't like to talk politics, going for the "it can't be helped/accept your fate" thing. Interesting: Shoganai.

Brits, quotation marks, and XKCD

So... I learned today, form XKCD, that the Brits like (or liked) to use single quotation marks where Americans used double quotation marks. Funky.

This guy, a UK website guy, says he recommends the American way b/c it has advantages. Good man:

SSBU, info/discussions from reddit and the wiki

https://www.ssbwiki.com/Ken_(SSBU)#Special_moves

Ken gets the old SSF2T crazy kicks, cool. Also his one that turns into a roundhouse (with invul. on the leg). Yoga flame motion, or the fwd to down quarter circle. Hold button longer = diff move.

Nata Otoshi Geri:
Due to the frame data of the move, both hits of the normal version of the move are a true blockstring on shield, while the first hit into the Inazuma Kick is just barely not a true blockstring, making it a very good way to hit opponents who do not hold shield for the full move. <---- holy cow, that's what is happening to me vs. metaknight's side-B flying screwattack... I knew it, but this explains why it's a thing.

Tatsumaki senpukyaku:
Read on his spin kicks... safe vs. not safe is weird.
  • Basically, if he goes through you shielding, he'll be safe on the other side (they say).
  • If it hits you weirdly, you might be able to hit him in between hits

https://www.reddit.com/r/SmashBrosUltimate/comments/1e3dzju/whats_a_common_character_opinion_you_think_is/

Kazuya's weakness, Giulio1232 says:

I constantly hear people saying that kazuya should be banned because they think he’s broken when he has a very linear recovery, a horrible disadvantage, a frame 7 jump squat when everyone else has a frame 3 jump squat, his reflector is very strong but almost impossible to use on reaction against close range projectiles and it can only be used on the ground and his own and only projectile is slow and easy to react and he’s combo food. No wonder he’s not top tier anymore

Rosalina - - gar-dev-oir Says:

I'll always go to bat for Rosalina. I understand why she isn't higher because of her very high learning curve this time around, but y'all need to understand that she is a TERRIFIC counter pick for top tiers. She can easily win neutral against almost all of them with starbits alone and even without star bits she still has a terrific midrange.

You can play against Kazuya very comfortably as her, for instance. Launch star can win her back stage control instantly if you bypass the ledge with it. He's far to slow to punish her.

Game and Watch's up air is COMPLETELY nullified by gravitational pull. She's really the only character in the entire roster unthreatened by him when stationed above him, which is huge. Not to mention Luma can still attack while Rosalina is burried by his down smash.

Luma can tank a charge shot from Samus and allow Rosalina to punish her with almost any attack at close range.

All her attacks bypass Ryu and Ken's counter.

She straight up wins neutral against Diddy if you anticipate his banana peel. She can snag it from him almost half a stage away with gravitational pull and ruin his entire gameplan.

Rosalina can sort of wall out Pac Man similarly to G&W. Fire hydrant is a non issue situation from her, especially if she catches it in the air. She can cheese a very early stock win if she catches it while he's close to the upper blast zone. Gravitational pull also forces him to approach, and she can bring his side b to a premature halt off stage and heal from it. Like Diddy, she can also take his item away and force him to approach.

Steve can be forced in to very uncomfortable positions if you separate the Luma behind his blocks. Not to mention Rosalina can take his down smash, down air, and his unridden side b.

ZSS, Ivysaur, and Joker's recovery is a free win for her before Arsen.

Peach is forced to play Rosalina's game because starbits always ruin her ground-float approach options and gravitational pull forces Peach to take damage from her turnips if it's used just as she throws them, and in some instances this can win Rosalina the stock at high percents.

That's just scratching the surface. However, she struggles a lot with Pyra/Mythra, Rob, any of the swordsmen, and 50/50s with Minmin.

SSBU The Unfun Tier List (Characters and Players!) to play Against - Casual 1v1 and 2v2 Mostly

So just for kicks (don't take this too seriously), here is a rough tier list of which characters (and emphasized by certain players that do certain things) are annoying / unfun to play against.

We play 1v1 and 2v2, team damage turned off, avoiding items and ultimate smash attacks. Note, the kid is really stinking good at this game... like destroys in local tournaments and fights some of the hardest guys online sometimes, winning with 1v1 low tier characters a lot. Me, I'm still a newb at this game, but been playing fighting games since they were invented, casually mostly.

As for the Unfun Tier List, it's my first attempt at this list - based on my low level playing and the kid's high level, so sort of a mix. I'll explain some thoughts on the ones that stand out.

LEGEND: Turtling/Turtler = Camping/Camper = too defensive = running away from the fight and trying to win by long range attacks or avoiding conflict.

NOTE: No offense intended towards people's favorite characters. This is just in this game, I don't typically dislike these characters outside of Smash Bros.

Top of the list here...

S+ Tier punks:

The pink blobs... I just don't like their look, apologies to fans. I can't tell what move they are doing... I mean their arms and legs don't look like much, so I never know if I got hit by a jab or a kick or a smash attack half the time, and when it hits hard I just die. They float around too much, irritating me like no other.

And at my level, Kirby specifically annoys me in 2v2 because he just floats around forever and ever, dragging out the game even when he's lost by a mile already. The pink cat blob has the sleep thing... and at my cruddy level, it gets me way too much. Or worse, I avoid it, then I try to get in for a punish and screw that up. Annoying annoying annoying all around.

Steve is obvious, too defensive/runs away. Crazy how infrequently you see him, it's almost like nobody likes using him (which is great, since fighting against him is just silly).

Yoshi ... I can't put my finger on it, but every time I play against a Yoshi I am left annoyed, win or lose. Maybe it's his annoying sounds (Sorry Yoshi, you're cool in the Mario Bros. games) or the way people play him, but it is pretty consistent for me to be annoyed. I think a lot of higher skilled guys play him at my low GSP rating and that's half the issue.

Pikachu - Again, nothing against him in other places, but in this game: annoying sounds, hard to hit b/c he's barely the size of an ant, and his attacks just are surprising brutal in a way that makes me grit my teeth.

Samus is a turtling piece of @#$% in this game. :) Really though, the keepaway game is just too frustrating for some of the cast. In higher level 1v1 play, if you are in certain distances and try to counter the projectile, Samus can react and punish you easily.

Pyra of Pyra/Mythra - I need her up here in S+ Tier b/c in 2v2, that flame sword is stupid. I mean, does it ever not hit me in 2v2? In 1v1, she's tough but not ultimately annoying compared to some. Sidenote: Mythra stupid b/c can basically never punish the side-B slashy slash stuff.

S Tier:

Sora... at low levels, just too annoying b/c you have to wait and wait and then try to punish after blocking the right thing. Makes me impatient and annoyed.

The floating ladies like Peach... in the S tier, they just get under my skin. Teleporting, running away, you name it. I've had fun once where I kept finding a counter to the Knight guy she summons... more of a "I hate this so much, I'm glad I beat you" feeling though.

Minmin - terrible. Like Dhalsim in SSF2T. Breaks the game for so many characters. I can't believe she has a way to jump, wiggle her arms out horizontally, and cover like a huge area safely for practically the entire jump.

Megaman/Pacman - runs away like crazy, too many projectiles. And Pacman never dies, I mean never dies... just slowly gets back up there somehow.

Dedede - more the player than the character. But his mega hard hits are a shocker to my low tier eyes. In 2v2, these guys just ooze slime. Super defensive projectiles when you least want to deal with them. Aggressive teabagging, etc. Apparently even in higher level play, the slimelords run this character.

Link - too many projectiles, runs away. His sword stays out forever on like down-air and stuff, and snuffs out every single thing... it's insane.

Mythra of Pyra/Mythra - Mythra is stupid b/c can basically never punish the side-B slashy slash stuff.

A Tier:

Kazuya - (He'd be S+ tier for the kid) - hits so hard, you will be surprised when you die. At higher levels of competition, his combos are very hard to escape and do tremendous damage even when you know almost all the tricks to escape them. Kudos to Riddles for explaining how to deal with Kazuya combos in his vids. We still can't do it, but at least there is hope. To be fair, the kid plays mostly the biggest heavies, so it's probably 3 times as hard to escape combos. [In reality, at my level he isn't an issue yet... nobody much can do the crazy combos that well.]

Mario/Luigi - Luigi's sound when he does his dash attack, makes me insane, Grrrr. Mario is just always played by guys about 20 times better than me, but somehow their GSP is the same as mine for Mario. WHY? And his forward air spike... the punks.

More overly keepaway turtly play by several in this tier.

King K.Rool - the 90% of players at my level in 2v2 try to act as annoying as possible. "They think they are funny, but they just aren't" is what the kid says. I do like using this character myself though.

Cpt. Falcon - The dude is only played by pros who somehow are at my GSP. That anti-air Knee... Gaaaah!

Diddy Kong - obnoxious fly.

Ness - PKfire is a nightmare in 2v2.

B Tier:

Not much to say other than... most ppl hate fighting good Sonics. At my level, the Sonics don't annoy me somehow so I can't complain.

Mr. Game & Watch - I use him, and so playing against him makes sense/no surprises mostly. Maybe his back-air is just too good.

The rest of the cast here... I don't have enough experience against to really give good opinions.

C Tier and D Tier:

These guys don't typically have any obnoxious play that I see at my level so, sure, I'll fight 'em.

Ken/Ryu - Now if it were Street Fighter, I'd put Ken and Ryu near the worst of fun to fight against. Somehow Smash Bros. makes their turtling 100 times less annoying than in Street Fighter.

Incineroar - I use him a lot. But playing against him, he's so scary in 2v2. I never know when I'm going to die.

Wario - he's funny, what can I say.

Pokemon Trainer - I just like the concept, cool.

Wizards and Warriors, that old 1980s show with Taxi guy

Had Jeff Conaway from Taxi and the other fellows I recognize. The bad guy is a different bad guy than I remember, wow, got him mixed up with I think the Sword and the Sorceress bad guy. But yeah, I do remember him after looking at these picts... who can forget the giant shoulders? And wow, a glowing sword (Star Wars tribute)... definitely forgot that?

And these links are great:

SSBU Incineroar - Fun and unique oddities EDIT: 7-5-24

https://ultimateframedata.com/incineroar.php for framedata.

He can press a direction, even run, and still do a normal throw. EDIT OOPS, SCRATCH THIS PARAGRAPH, ALL CAN DO A LEFT OR RT DIRECTION MOVE THROW. IT WAS OUT OF SHIELD PLUS DIRECTION IS A ROLL,  NOT A THROW, THAT OFTEN WAS SCREWING ME UP. Super nice, more like Capcom fighters like Street Fighter. Up until now, it was a struggle to relearn to sit still, then press throw.

At my level, find myself using his special abilities constantly, yet some characters need their normals the most. Beating the tar out of average joes out there even, which sure is unusual for me for this game. Mostly it comes down to nearly all of his moves being kill moves... huge huge huge in this game.

His forward air and back air are both roughly the same, a kick in that direction... halleluiah. So used to Game&Watch, where if I accidentally do forward-air instead of back-air, I die.

EDIT: His Dwn-B reversal is somehow satisfying and I use it a lot. For some reason, i don't much like using reversals on other characters. Of course I personally hate fighting against reversal characters, but hey, I guess it's in the game.

EDIT: I like his neutral air a lot for some reason. It hits super hard with the sweet spot, and it just looks fun if you run, then neutral air... and in 2v2 if they are blocking you will surf across their heads on your belly, too funny.

His built in "taunts" are great, just adds a fun factor to the game.

Is he looking at his right hand to figure out how to use his fingers? Heh... The kid back in the toddler days trying to do a thumbs up or peace sign.
